Machine files and the converter
Which format your machine reads, opening files, converting.
| Format | Machines |
|---|---|
| PES | Brother, Babylock |
| DST | Tajima and most commercial machines |
| JEF | Janome, Elna |
| EXP | Bernina, Melco |
| VP3 | Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff |
| XXX | Singer |
| HUS | Older Husqvarna Viking (opening only) |
Opening a machine file in the studio
Project menu > Open embroidery file, or drop the file on the canvas. It becomes one object with its own stitches: move it, turn it, mirror it, recolour its threads, and add text, shapes or images around it.
Tip: A machine file sews best at the size it was made. The studio warns you when you resize it by more than 10%: enlarged stitches get sparse, shrunk ones get dense.
The free converter
The File converter turns a DST, PES, JEF, EXP, VP3, XXX or HUS file into any of the formats above, with a preview, for free and without an account. DST and EXP files don't store thread colours: your machine asks for each colour as it sews.
