Tips for good embroidery
Rules of thumb that make designs sew well.
- Leave room in the hoop: keep the design at least 5 mm inside the sewing area.
- Size matters: details narrower than 0.8 mm and letters under 5 mm tall don't hold. Make the design bigger, or simplify it.
- Pick the right fabric in Size and stitches: stretchy knits need more underlay and pull compensation than twill or denim.
- Use fewer colours: each thread change takes time on the machine.
- Stabilize: use a cut-away stabilizer on knits and a tear-away on woven fabrics.
- Test first: sew new designs on a scrap of the same fabric before the real piece.
